How does the tool get an image under exactly 100 KB?
It re-encodes the picture at progressively tuned JPEG quality levels and, when needed, gently reduces dimensions, until the file lands at or just under 100 KB. You always get the highest quality that fits the limit.
Will the result really be 100 KB or less?
Yes, in almost every case. The tool checks the real output size after each pass, so what you download genuinely fits the limit. Only extremely detailed images at very small limits (like 10 KB) may stop at the smallest achievable size — the tool tells you when that happens.
Can I compress to 50 KB, 20 KB, or another size instead?

What happens to PNG files?
PNG is lossless, so its size cannot be tuned to a target directly. The tool converts PNG input to high-quality JPEG, which is what size-limited upload forms expect. Transparency is flattened onto a white background. If you need to keep transparency, use the compress PNG tool instead — it re-encodes to WebP, which supports an alpha channel.
Will compressing to 100 KB ruin the quality?
For a typical photo, no. 100 KB is enough for a sharp image around 1000–1500 px wide. The tool always uses the highest quality that fits, and you can compare before and after with the built-in slider.
